How to Apply

See eligibility guidelines to determine whether you can apply to be a Grove Scholar.

Elilgible students should obtain an application from your high school and submit your completed application to your high school. Typically, Grove Scholar applications are provided at each school's career center or counseling office. Please see below for the general criteria for selection and typical application requirements and questions.

Criteria for Selection

This is a merit-based scholarship, with merit being defined as proven potential for an individual to succeed in his or her chosen career field. When equally qualified candidates are being considered, financial need may be taken into account. Successful candidates should have the following:

  • Focused career goal that can be achieved with an associates degree or technical certificate
  • Demonstrated commitment to their chosen career paths
  • Potential to succeed and be a role model for their peers
  • 2.5 GPA or better*
  • Good attendance record in high school
  • Record of participating in college preparatory activities

*Students with a GPA of between 2.0 and 2.5 may be considered to be eligible for the program if their academic track record, activities and work experience provide sufficient evidence of potential to succeed in their chosen field.

Typical Application Requirements (actual applications may vary by high school)

The following elements may be required as part of the application process:

  • An application information sheet, including statement of support from parent
  • Signed Release of Information
  • Essay questions (see below)
  • Recommendation form
  • Copy of most recent transcript
  • Evidence of FAFSA filing
  • Interview
  • Copy of course sequence that must be completed for career path

Typical Application Essay Questions (actual applications may vary by high school):

  1. Tell us about your career goal and why you have chosen it. How long have you thought about this career? What inspired you to choose this career? What you do you see yourself doing after you complete your college AA/AS or certificate program?

  2. Please tell us about any coursework, work experience, internships, job shadowing and/or volunteering you have in your career path. Describe the skills that you have acquired to be successful in your career path. How will these experiences help you succeed?

  3. Please tell us about any school activities, programs and/or events that you have participated in to prepare yourseful for college. Examples: College Preparedness Workshops, College Night, Financial Aid Workshops, etc.

  4. (Optional) When deciding between equally qualified candidates, financial need may be taken into account. On the information sheet, you have indicated the number of people in your household and family income. Here, you may provide any additional information on your financial need.
